Out of curiousity, if he would have asked instead of trespassing, would you have let him hunt on your land? Just general curiousity really, as a hunter I certainly respect private property and don't look down on those that wish to keep it so. I've seen plenty of "Hunting by permission only" signs and sometimes even a phone number for contact.
As was stated, he should know better than to just climb over your fence/gate, etc., but sadly its due to people like that, the rest of us ethical hunters have to suffer for.
Also a sign I'll be hanging on my property soon is a variation on the "trespassers will be shot, survivors shot again" theme.
Read: "Trespassers will be shot by trained sniper. There will BE NO SURVIVORS." And in a lower part, think I'll add: "Welcome to the mountains, where NO ONE will EVER find your remains".
