Thread: 870 light

I agree with the differences in lumen. However, my experience with Greg McGee lights has not been positive. My light's been back to him, but it's still not functioning with 100% reliability. This is unacceptable and I need to have another discussion with him...

The only thing I have a problem with the Fury light is that it has a clicky tail cap. I did not want to have to worry about it staying on by accident. If I remove my thumb from it, I want it off. Compare 200 lumens to 500 lumens and see how much brighter it actually is, you might be surprised.

Great light but for a little more money or the same money there is better. I bought the Streamlight ProTac and put it on my AR. I wanted something bright and something that cost less than $100. It is good light, programmable, bright and pretty simple to use once you figure it out. After some further research and a reference (from Jer) I bought one from Greg Mcgee Engineering.

I bought the 1000 lumen option because it was going next to my bed. That light is REALLY bright. Perfect for my bed side light and for camping. He has the 740 lumen option that runs about the same price as the Streamlight ProTac HL. I may eventually sell the ProTac and buy another MTE because I like to keep everything familiar.

When comparing all the lights next to each other there is a slight difference between 200 lumen and the 600 lumen. Yes the 600 lumen is brighter but IMO not that much. Comparing them to the 1000 lumen in brightness and range the MTE hands down blows the others out of the water. YMMV.
oh, i know 200 to 500 isn't a huge or always necessarily noticable difference. i have a 260 and 450 malkoff devices lights and can barely tell the difference sometimes.

i do prefer the clicky switch to the twist in this application since you can turn the light on without your hand leaving its grip--something that would be diffitcult to do with the twist. either way, your setup is top notch

I have not had the light in the "field" other than camping but it has worked great. What is your light doing? I have spoke with Greg on the phone numerous times before purchasing and has GREAT customer service. I bet he will take care of you as he did with me.

Definatly something to consider. I had Surefire send me a clicky cap that I have laying around somewhere. Might be worth swapping them and seeing which one works better for me.

I'd encourage the clicky as well. If you can find it, try it out and see what happens when you move your hands to engage/disengage the light.

Let me state that my light isn't the M3, it's an older C3, so this may not apply to this discussion, but I'll put it here to answer the question... My light changes modes as you move the light into various positions. If it's flat, it stays, but if you 'tilt' it forward/backward, it can change modes or even turn on/off. Seems to be the 'brain unit' that's jacked up, or possibly something in the battery/power. I'm sure we'll get it worked out.

I must say the M3 with 1K lumen is very tempting!!

Never thought if it that way but does make sense. I'll give it a shot and let you know what I think about the clicky cap.

His videos on Youtube do not do that light justice. It is a very even split between flood and focus beam. It is pretty small for how much light it packs. I ordered both the MTE-H6 and M3 and sent the H6 back. The pattern and throw of the M3 was much better than the H6 and seemed brighter. Bought the rechargable batteries set and never looked back. He also has pressure switches if you wanted to go that route on the M3.

Much better with the click cap. The momentary switch was fine for my AR since my foregrip was right next to it and did not move. Thanks the for tip!
