    DENVER—The attorney for a former University of Colorado professor who lost his appeal to get his job back after he compared some Sept. 11 victims with a Nazi said Monday he will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled university officials qualified for immunity.
    Churchill attorney David Lane said the appeal will be over claims that Ward Churchill's free speech rights were violated.
    "The court never said his First Amendment rights were not violated. They simply said the regents are above the law, which is a dangerous precedent," Lane said.

    I was in Boulder when that was heating up in the news.
    I stopped to get a drink at a gas station near CU and there was a guy
    who had the same hairstyle and color as that douche.

    I walked up to him and said , "Hey asshole"
    The guy turned around, wasnt him and I promptly put my foot i n my mouth.
    I wanted to give that f*cker a piece of my mind.

    I thought he was actually fired for plagiarism, and this was just the icing on the cake? Either way he's a tool

    He was. He's contending that the plagiarism was just a pretense and he was really being fired for his bold first-amendment touting stance.

    Note he's not saying he didn't plagiarize - just that he thinks his plagiarism didn't warrant firing, so the "first amendment" grounds must have been the real issue. Which is funny, since plagiarism is just about the worst academic crime one can commit.

    Not to mention "enhancing" his CV on his application to CU, and his claim to Native American heritage (since proven false) that he used to get preference for the job.
