Default Camping & Shooting around Leadville?

Dose anyone out there know of a good camping and shooting spot around Camp Hale, Leadville? We're still looking for the perfect site for our Two Day Club Shoot. We'd appreciate any input. http://co-ar15.ar-15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6019 Thanks, Larry

I actually know of a great spot but will have to ask some people how on earth to get their once again. About 5 years ago we took a break from the 4 corners rally and we all went camping for labor day weekend was a great spot nobody around.

It might be a little late by why camp "around camp hale"? Camp AT camp hale. There is tons of backwoods camping. Go over the river towards the mine. Lots of stuff there.

Shooting. There is an old firing range there....600m IIRC. Beyond that there are some other safe areas.

Camp Hale is great. As a kid I went to shooting matches with my father at Camp Hale (yes, they used to have sanctioned shooting matches there). That was before all of the damn california tree huggers moved to CO....

when I was still 'in', our team did camp out at camp hale, litteraly, right there on the ground by what's left of the old buildings and a few other 'unofficial' camping spaces

    It's a very pretty place.
