I do shift work now, started 4 months ago... My schedule looks like this: 0600-1500 for 2 days, then 1400-2300 for 2 days, then 2200-0700 for 2 days, then I get 4 days off. I usually spend the whole first day of my "weekend" in bed because I don't get home until 0800 or later, and it takes another day or so to get my body to adjust to a normal sleeping and eating schedule.
It has its benefits, but I think Mrs. HoneyBadger and I are ready for an office job for a while.
