Thread: SBR Question

    Default SBR Question

Just sent in the paperwork to make my 15-22 into an SBR, so I have filled out the forms once and am familiar with the process.

Wanting to do another SBR with an AR lower. On the form 1 it asks for caliber, and I was told you cannot put "Multi" in there, it had to be a specific caliber.

I always see guys post that you should do your SBR on a "Real lower" as opposed to the 15-22 so you can switch calibers.

Now my question, if I register it with a .223 caliber, will I be able to switch it out at will to anything else? 9mm, 300 BLK, ect.

Yes, any caliber, any barrel length.

Gun registration is gun confiscation in slow motion.

If this is true why do they ask for specific barrel lengths and specific calibers?

You only have to report permanent changes to the original reported configuration.

Yes as long as you keep a .223 upper around so it can be made readily available into the original configuration.

That said; I have an approved Form 1 with about 20 calibers listed on it - everything from .22LR to .338.

Don't shoot the messenger, it's the ATF's rules. You have to list the configuration that you're making, you can't just make a generic SBR lower (no matter how much sense that would make). As someone mentioned, keep the original upper around, otherwise it's a permanent change which isn't a big deal, you just have to file paperwork declaring the change.

How long ago did you do this form1? Though I haven't checked personally (don't have the need), supposedly the ATF is no longer accepting a list of calibers.
