I have a sister-in-law who is at the absolute bottom of the socio-economic ladder, which is why I have now inherited a niece/daughter and the associated costs with raising an unexpected teenager. But I digress. My sister-in-law was a master of selling food stamps or cashing them out pre-EBT. She's still a master at cashing them out, but it's a bit harder, she complains more, and has to get outside. I'd rather the whole program be significantly redesigned. I'd like you to be forced to take your kid(s) with you in order to use your food stamps. But I think EBT, however flawed, is better than what came before.

If you are living off the others (tax-payers), you should be living under their rules. My rules would be no kids, no junk food, absolute necessities, public transportation and a monthly inspection just like a jail. if you don't like living under those rules...get a fucking job.

Which is why I prefaced it with "If we're going to buy this BS that government should have some sort of hand in paying for poor people's food the..." I could care less if the poor are inconvenienced at their crappy government grocery stores ... don't like it? Get a f*cking job.

Better yet, do away with government handouts all together.

I think she's saying how messed up it is, but sadly that's how some people think and the system encourages that sort of behavior.

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.

I think food stamps is a good program that just like most things has morphed into ways for people to be lazy. If you truly need food stamps, then to me there is no shame in that. I have never been on food stamps, but for some time a year or so ago I considered it.

There seems to be alot of abuse, but some people do need them, if you are disabled. I don't understand how you can be on them, without being disabled, but apparently if you don't make a certain amount of $, then you can apply for them. Of course, nothing is said about all the illegals on them.

Even with the ridiculously confiscatory tax rates in the US, Americans give more money to charity than the entire budget of the United Nations.

We really don't need government to do anything to "help" the downtrodden, the American people are the most generous and charitable in human history. Couple that with the fact that private charities are significantly more efficient with the money they get and you'll find that MORE people are helped when the government is cut out of the charity business.
