Default Just got back from vacation. Part 2

And, of course, no trip to Oahu is complete if you don't go see Pearl Harbor. Here are a few pictures from the U.S.S. Missouri and the memorial at the U.S.S. Arizona. The Missouri was still seeing combat duty as recently as Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait so it has had weapons upgrades such as Tomahawk missiles. You can see the oil sheen above the Arizona in one of the pictures from the oil that is still leaking out of it after all of these years.

    Continued in "Part 3".

    Thank you for posting these.
For me, this would be the only reason to go to Hawaii.
My Great Uncle Art Cook was on the U.S.S. Nevada Dec. 7, 1941.

It was a great experience. The day was perfect for it too, in my opinion. It had been raining that morning and was still very cloudy and overcast while we were there. It really made the mood feel right for visiting a memorial where over 1,000 people lost their lives.

Here is the wall with the list of names of those who died on the Arizona that day.

Great pics! Did they still have the 50 cal on the front of the ship?

Hard to believe that the Japanese surrendered on the Mighty Mo. Great pics Ray thanks for sharing them.

You'd think some tree-hugging organization would squeal and squawk until the govenment did something about it.

You could actually watch drops of oil float up from the ship. I just couldn't get a good photo of the oil drops rising because of the glare on top of the water.
