    Default Ruger P series

Just wanted to hear your guys and gals views on the Ruger P series. I went out shooting today and brought my Glocks and my Ruger P95. I got the Ruger on a trade and forgot all about it until today lol. I absolutely fell in love with this big ol gun. I know they are not the prettiest, or the lightest around, but for the price I say they are the best " on a budget " handgun you can get. I used to have a P89 and never had a problem with it either. Just wondering what you guys think of them? Any good memories with one?

Basically what you said. Bomb proof tank that is heavy and ugly. I think they are heavier than they are ugly though.

Like my ex they will eat anything you put in em. When i see one posted for sale i am confused why some board members looking for an under $300 pistol, don't jump on them.

They are usually part of the 1911 elite crowd, where if it isn't a 1911 in 45acp they don't want it.

I agree, after going though Ruger armor school and seeing the LE pistol testing that Ruger does I can honestly say that 99.999% of malfunctions in a P-85, 89, 90, 91, 94 are due to lack of cleaning on the part of the gun owner. Most of these malfunctions occur after 2000 rounds fired without cleaning. As a defensive weapon it it hard to beat for reliability.

I have no experience with the Ruger polymer guns.

    Heavy, crappy trigger pull.

Dead nuts reliable and built like a tank to last for the ages.

Decent guns, but don't fit my hand well.

While I love Ruger revolvers, and have owned more than a half dozen or more of 'em, I do not care for the P series semi-auto pistols. Mostly subjective, and I've not fired them in some years, but I've never been able to get them to shoot accurately. And I'm a decent pistol shot all told, shoot a lot of semi-auto pistols accurately but not with Ruger semi-auto centerfires.

My P-85 surprised me with how accurate it is, especially since it has been my toolbox gun, truck gun, forgotten gun, and now my gunbag range gun. It more or less gets ignored until I remember it, then I shoot the crap out of it, clean it, and forget about it again. Works flawlessly.
