I was watching the pre-UN Speech stuff on Fox News this morning (Yes, oh dear god that evil biased Fox News! ) and they had a national security expert who was an undersecretary of defense for Reagan- and she made a GREAT point... Reminds me of my Machiavelli when I read "The Prince"...
"It is better to be feared than loved, Obama is trying to hard to be loved. If you are feared then eventually you will be loved out of that fear."

Anyone who never read or studied Machiavelli I'll help you out- for a leader, it is better to feared than loved, for those who 'love' you can more easily take advantage of your good nature and stab you in the back- I'm paraphrasing here- and being feared you will incur less backstabbing because your enemies fear what harm you may bring upon them. Now, don't confuse this with that tyranny idea that Jefferson said "When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." This is strictly on matters of foreign policy.

Side note- apparently he also didn't study Von Clausewitz, who stressed that the allies you make and keep in good standing will better aid you in dire situations: See: Israel. Why does this president keep giving Netanyahu the finger?

Obama is too busy "making history" to pay attention to it. Hopefully in November he will be history.
