Did you run at bandimere much in the eraly mid 90s?

If so, you may have remembered a blue/white GSXR1100 that all the people were awed by. It was a large guy that ran it and it had wheelie bars. That was one of the quickest bikes running out there for a while. That guy wouldn't run my GSXR on the street (oooppps stereo type) he would only run with wheelie bars.

You may have seen my GSXR if you raced there much. It was a black/red '87 1100. I then had it painted red/white/blue. I normally ran it with half the fairings off.

My philosphy always was drive the bike there, run, and drive home. I didn't strap it. The front was lowered some, but I ran the bike on the strip exactly how I ran it on the street..

I'm unlikely to be found on any group ride, Phloater and i are in the same sportbike club and have been for several years. I have yet to go on a group ride with anyone from the club.

I've been on 1 group ride and honestly i didn't like it. Too many people were around that i didn't know their riding style.

If i'm riding with someone, i want to know how they're going to react.

Oh, and i do take offense to the "typical sport bike rider" comments. Especially if they're coming from someone who rides a bar hopper...

But every real motorcyclist out their knows, it's the cagers that are the true danger.

I have a friend who won't ride, but because she knows me and through what I've told her she now keeps an eye out for all motorcyclists (every driver should do this regardless)

She makes note that the majority of the idiots out there on motorcycles that she seen are riding crotch rockets and are younger men.

It pisses her off to see idots weaving in and out of traffic and doing all sorts of stupid crap.

This was told to me unsolicited.

Well the group riding style is real simple you ride with common sense and obey the traffic laws. Are you by chance afraid to drive also because your on the rode with people whom you don't know there driving skills???

To what stupidity??? If I ride with anybody I have never rode with I keep my distance untill I see how they ride problem solved.

If you don't ride like that why would you take offense to it??? Sorry I hit a nerve but if you ride with me that won't fly. Your more than welcome to ride like your late to your own funeral just don't do it around me. I also hate to burst your bubble but I have been riding for over 20 years and I have had sport bikes. You see the problem is I know I have been there and done that try again.

I took offense to it also back in the day...........why??? because it was true. 100% fact you don't own a bike like that because your going to ride it like grandpa on his way to church. However if you can ride it like a sane person for one day on a club ride come join us and let's have some fun.

No doubt cagers are the #1 threat but idiots who wish to play super bike racer are not far behind. Unless of course they do that on their own time and not with a pack of bikes.

Maybe i didn't make i clear enough, i take offense to stereotype i don't fit into. The same as i take offense to bigotry and racism. It's far worse when it comes from a hypocrite. IE: someone who rides home from the bar (bar hopper), and shuns the sport bike crowd because we tend to wear gear, etc.

Hell i don't ride with anyone who doesn't wear at least a helmet, regardless of their bike, and i especially don't ride with anyone who drinks and rides.

Aside from that i have done wheelies and stoppies on purpose. Not to look cool, most of the time it's alone in a very vacant area. The practice controlling the bike in that situation is invaluable if it happens out on the streets. With these bikes having so much power to weight, it can happen when you don't intend it to.

Example; Last week i nearly got hit by a car that ran a stop sign, so of course i was getting flipped off and yelled at because i honked to make sure he knew i was there. Either adrenaline or his bumper being as close as it was made me react a little heavy on the throttle and the front wheel came up, i set the wheel back down with a simple feathering of the clutch and continued to leave.

HUGH BUMP, didn't feel like making a new thread after I searched.

Today I did a oil change with the extra full synthetic oil I had in my garage which is 20w-50 but does anyone drop to 10w-40 in their Harley durning colder weather. Today I logged about 40 miles and I typically will put in 1k miles from now till March.
When I had other bikes I typically did run a slightly thinner oil but I haven't noticed any V-Twin lighter weight oils designed for air cooled engines.

Thanks for the help ....Jim, Sorry if this was a stupid question.

Thinner oil is better for the cold, 10w-40 is pretty common as a thinner all around oil, But i use 20w-50 year round in my Single 650. but next oil change, soon, i might go 10w-40 because of CO's colder climate.

If you're worried go on a 200 mile ride, then change your oil to 10w-40, the oil you drop will pull some of the carbon out of your engine, like an oil rinse.

Not with HD's they went with the 20W-50[multi-vis] for year round temp changes. The manual suggest straight weights for hard running, consistent higher temp areas. You have a 20-Winter weight viscosity that will handle the colder temps, UNLESS you live where the norm is 40* or less for prolonged periods of time. CO rarely maintains a below freezing, consistent temp. In the am or late evenings, sure. For the average rider, not an issue. Besides he's running synthetic, not a problem.
Now those Lead Wing riders, i think they use a 10W after Nov1 , they run in everything except ice packed roads, when possible. Seen herds of them coming out of a 20* fog packed highway matching paint jobs, helmets, jackets, even their walkers strapped down. Like it was a day on the beach.

I love that comment. I Ride all year and on a 06 Wing its funny how everyone thinks Wing riders are old. I am one of the people who have a much improved ride after switching to Rottela T6, many of the HD guys are using it also and love how the bike runs.

I know your helmet matches your wing IF i could ride again, and if i could hold up a heavy mc / barcalounger a wing would be on the short list. We lnow a wing owner up north, like northern MT. he's a snow bird, says once he hits st. georges UT. pulls over, takes off his winter gear, swaps out the 10 cd cassette, off he goes.
