I typically put a cone out.

Had someone park a bitty compact between the cone & trailer once though.

Seriously? I've never heard of that before. How is anybody supposed to know how long you are going to be there? Most of the time when I have seen a trailer parked on the street it has been there for more than just a few minutes.

I tend to agree. Dropping a trailer on a public street doesn’t give the owner indefinite right to the parking around it.
Is it the most friendly thing to do to park in front of the trailer, probably not. But parking a trailer on a public residential street is done so at your own risk. Personally I guess I’m a little jaded because it annoys me when someone I don’t know parks a trailer on my neighborhood street.

Or park it close enough to the corner or alley entrance that no one can/will park in front of it. I park it just far enough off the corner that it isn't a parking friendly space, but it appears that I was trying to be courteous and not block the sight line for other traffic at the intersection. That way, I almost always have unfettered access when I need to hitch up.

I have 2 people in my neighborhood that I would like to strangle, though. One is a class A motorhome and the other is a box trailer (2 separate residences) and both constantly park with the ass end of the vehicles as close to the corner as possible, and both are on fairly busy (for our neighborhood) streets/intersections. You have to pull practically 1/2 way into the intersection to see if vehicles are approaching.

Boy, you guys sure are thoughtful of others.

This is a through street adjacent to a neighborhood. Not a single driveway anywhere on it. This is not parked in front of anyone's house. I went out of my way to make sure I didn't cause anyone trouble with where I parked it. Hell, I could have parked closer to home, in front of the neighborhood mailbox, but I thought that'd be rude to both the mail lady and everyone who wants you stop and grab the mail on the way home.

Regarding the street parking not belonging to me, of course it doesn't. Neither does the hundreds of yards of completely open curbs on both sides of the street that this person could have used instead.

How happy would you all be if someone parked so close they boxed your car in and you couldn't move your vehicle until they moved theirs first??? Every single one of you would be PISSED. This is no different.

Just because you don't know how long a trailer is going to be there doesn't make it safe to assume that the owner won't need to move it until after you move your vehicle. That's a self centered assumption to make. If there is nowhere else to park, I get it. Shit happens. Countless other places to park? It's simply rude.

To be fair, people are used to seeing trailers parked along the streets all over the place. Generally I know that a trailer is about to be used when it's attached to a vehicle. The wide open street sounds like when you're in an empty movie theater and someone comes and sits down right next to you. That person probably wasn't intentionally being rude. More than likely, they parked that close to the trailer because they saw it as another vehicle and as far as other vehicles are concerned, people generally park near enough to them so the street parking fills up uniformly without weird gaps from people just parking where ever. I like the cone idea since it's cheap insurance.

When I become rich enough to buy mid end McLaren and Ferrari, I am going to carry a private cone around.

Might as well buy the cone now so you'll already have it when you get the super car. '

I feel like if you just rocked a Toyota Avalon instead of those high maintenance German cars you've been driving, you'd already be half way to a McLaren in repair savings alone!

    Default TOYota Avalon

I had Toyota Avalon till July 2017 and traded in for 2018 Hyundai Elantra.

On that avalon, I had to do:
    _New Starter motor
    - New Radiator

Still exponentially cheaper [parts] than some German vehicles.
