Please please please.... Do not exceed the activity limits your doc gives you. I had surgery at L4-5 / L5-S1, and didn't limit my activities as directed, and I'm still paying the price. Good luck with your rehab!

    ^Absolutely this!^

I suffered from nasty spinal stenosis, where the nerves were getting pinched by the vertebrae, from aging, disc compression/wear, arthritis, all that shit.

I had a laminotomy at L2/L3, and L3/L4 last October. And then a bilateral laminectomy of L3/L4/L5 in March. That's where they remove those knob things on the back of the vertebrae. Which leaves the spinal cord kinda exposed and vulnerable, but relieved the pressure on the nerves completely. They call it a "decompression".

My back feels great now, the stenosis is gone. But the spine kinda cracks around a little, like it's loose. Biggest pain I had, and am still dealing with a little, is the muscles healing up. In order to get to the spine, there's a lot of muscles that have to be disrupted, and they don't like that much.

But hey, if you're suffering enough to consider surgery and the doc says he can fix it, I say go for it! Since you did, be damn sure to rest LOTS and take it very easy!!! Consider the limitations they put on you as maximums, and strive to stay under those limitations. Or you WILL regret trying to overdue it! No BLT's...Bending, Lifting or Twisting. Lift nothing heavier than a jug of milk.

If you can swing it at all, let yourself have the time to heal up, you'll be glad you did. I had no choice but to go back to work after like, 2 weeks, and have paid a price for it.

Oh, and you don't want to laugh! Or cough, or sneeze. Even farting may hurt for awhile. Every thing that involves your lower back muscles in any way, you'll take notice of it. But you WILL heal up, and you WILL feel better!
