    Default "F" Me

Putting new Hi-viz sights in my Springfield 1911 RO. One of the simplest jobs and I have done this a dozen or so times before.

I cleaned up the old glue from the factory sight, filed down the sight and the lip on my 1911 to push it on 50% of the way with my fat finger. After tapping on it I can only get the sight in 90% of the way. I can't even get it back out now to file it down more it just won't move. I've been tapping on this sob for the last hour and now my brass punches are starting to mar it.

Don't cringe but my 5lb hammer won't even budge it... Yes I said 5lbs "F" me.....

Googled with no success any ideas???

freeze assembly, gently heat the slide not the sight.

I can get it with my press if need be. It is amazing the strength a .060 piece of steel with a double dovetail can have.
Did you soak it in Kroil or similar?
If there were any traces of old locking compound on the slide the friction of driving the new sight in can reactivate the locking compound, needing a touch of heat as well.

I had it sitting in tetra overnight. I'm assuming I didn't get all of the old compound off as you just said.

I was planning to get a can of air to cool it off after heating it but I don't want to smoke the fiberoptic.

Bert I'm shooting you a pm...

Nah, you just have to convince the 8oz hammer it is the 8 pounder.
