    Default 19 years ago today

RIP for those lost that day and the following days in a shithole country.

When I was off the horn of Africa, IDK if I really thought of those who fought
19 years ago in Moghadishu or not. Id like to think I did.

Take a moment for those lost and for those still fighting today
    Battle of Mogadishu

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.

    Rangers Lead The Way!!!

Thank you brothers for setting the example for those of us who followed in your footsteps...

Jeebus, some days I feel like Rip Van Winkle ... hard to believe its been just shy of two decades since then.

Yes. Thanks for posting this stark reminder... Our mission was originally to restore peace and end a famine/civil war, it turned into the largest sustained firefight for US forces since Vietnam. God bless our troops, our fallen brothers and sisters, and our nation they have sacrificed for. RLTW!

Keep in mind that it was Clinton pulling out of Somalia that convinced Osama that America was a "Paper Tiger" and that's why he started planning 9/11/01.

I know, in 98 I fired Tomahawks on Sudan and the guys I was serving with,
predicted this (the embassy bombing and us firing salvos on them)
    was just the beginning.

My mother and step-father go on camping weeks with a group of camper people back in the VA NC area. She told me they were setting around the fire with a few in the group one night and one of the members tells them about how he was shot down and taken captive during the Black Hawk Down incident. I guess his name is Michael. I was like,"holy shit." That would be kinda cool to find out you were sitting a camp fire with Michael Durant.

Chief Durant spoke at my buddies graduation from WOFT back in '04, he then took all the UH-60 drivers out for a beer afterward. He seems like a really stand up and cool guy- I read his two books and they're really good. One was about his tour to the Mog, the other was about TF160.
