The guy was put in a no win situation. Go left or right, the result would have been the same.

They may have thought so, but refusing to serve a candidate is a much stronger political statement than serving a candidate. So what could just be a miscalculation on their part looks like a pretty harsh partisan political statement. Rosa Linda's will be much more harmed by their decision not to serve Romney than if they would have just served him and kept their mouths shut.

These guys eat out probably at least once a day and often more, so there's tons or restaurants they eat at and we never hear anything about it.

Its incredibly foolish for a restaurant to make a big deal about serving or refusing to serve a particular politician in this heated political environment.

    EDIT
Here's a note from the owner ... sounds like this isn't about refusing to serve him a meal, but about refusing to be a campaign stop (which frankly I can understand).

I (Oscar) would like to apologize to EVERY ONE WE MAY HAVE offended concerning Governor Mitt Romney, and the article in Westword. We did not refuse him service yesterday. THAT IS FALSE! As stated in the article, when we were contacted by the campaign of candidate Romney on August 6th, by a former Mormon missionary, that he would like to bring the candidate here, NOT TO EAT but; it was presented to us that he wanted to do a political stump here. Talk about our small business and how because we share our religious views with the candidate and are Latinos it would be great for him to do a campaign stop. We did say NO because we are not Republicans, nor are we Democrats. We will welcome any sitting President of the United States. But we did not want to be a campaign stopping place....
Since this article came out we have been getting hate emails, from people across the country, people sending us death threats and people calling us telling us we are racist... that they hope we go out of business. All are welcome to join us for family meal! we may not be your cup of tea but we still welcome anybody with open arms.

We DID NOT WANT TO BE A POLITICAL STOP!!
If we do go out of business our Annual Thanksgiving Feast to the needy would end. Last year we fed 5500 meals, this year we may serve above 6000 meals. Please let the American public know that we are not racist or bigots. We are just a working family wanting to help our community and our country by serving those in need.

    PLEASE STOP THE HATE!!

Yeah, if they wanted to make a statement they could have said you are welcome to eat here, but I don't want the press and all the BS, eat, pay, leave. Anytime a business refuses cutomers I think it's a bad look. Not sure why they had to throw in the owners were Mormons but I thought Mormons all stuck together pretty tight and supported each other.

EDIT: ok so that is what they did, can't hate them for that.

I'll make a point to eat there. They didn't refuse service to my Presidential hopeful, they just didn't want to alienate half of a demographic. To me, it seems they made a good business decision. My food doesn't always need to be politically correct, literally.

Never even heard of the place..

It is plain to see from his statement in regards to the Westword article, he is pretty heated. They also have no one doing their PR on this or that statement would have been much better. I like it though, you can see his frustration in it.

I don't blame him about not wanting to be a political stop.. sure come here for the food.. but not for a photo op. Even though I think lunch was part of the plan, they did kind of shoot themselves in the foot.

Maybe I'll have to go check the place out.

"We could use the business, I’m not going to lie," Aguirre told The Daily. “But at the same time, what kind of message is that going to send?”
    Typical "we're not political" BS.

If they were worried about the message they would have served President Romney and proven they weren't political. I bet they'd serve The Failure or The Looper. They've painted themselves as political stooges with this stunt.

This is different from the guy who wouldn't serve Biden because he was honest about why he wouldn't serve Biden and Rosa Linda is being dishonest.

I grew up eating there. The owners are the nicest people ever. Rosa linda bought all the kids in my school uniforms when the parents couldnt afford them. Theire decision hasnt taken away my respect for what they have done for the community for all these years.

Good for you! Maybe it'll be easier for you to get a table now.
