I have 6.5-20x atop my .22LR and I rarely shoot it past 12x (out to 300yds).
I know that you didn't ask for a recommendation but I will however say that, if I was looking to purchase a new scope for a .22LR, I would seriously consider this one: http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-12x42-Tactic...pe-P53714.aspx
I have 3-9X40 on one of my rifles zerod at 50 yards, it's a nikon with BDC designed for .22LR if you can handle the kinda crowded reticle it's nice to have references of different distances in your scope.

If you really get fanatic about the .22 lr you might wanna take look at this site. A lot of 10/22 info as well as guys putting ridiculous size scopes on their rifles, at least thats my opinion. I think a 3-9X40 is plenty of magnification for the average person then it just depends on what you're willing to spend but what ever makes you happy run with it.
