Default High Cap Mag law in CO

So I had some loaded 30 round mags while walking into a outdoor range right on Aurora and Denver border zone. A cop/ATF officer guy pointed them out and said i can't have them. I insist to enter the range and said that is incorrect for the area i'm at, but he wrote me a ticket and seized my mags.

This piss me off. I'm pretty sure the ground i was standing is not part of City of Denver. I need to talk to someone about this crap and get my stuff back. I was holding the mags in my hand though, that may be the only possible mistake on my part.

You need to make sure you were not in Denver first...

That sounds hinky as hell, but its the city AND county of denver, as one entity....

...so, if you were in denver county, your in the city, so far as right of law is concerned. The county lines tend to follow water resources, so its kinda hard to tell. Cherry Creek, to be clear, is in denver.

There is a ban on mags over 20rnd capacity, but the law is poorly written and unclear. I would appear on the ticket and indicate that you were going to a shooting center you did not believe was in denver, and would not knowingly violate the law. However city demarcations are not clearly marked, and a home rule law that contradicts the legality for the rest of the state is difficult to follow where not posted.

Not knowing the particulars, i can only suggest, of course, since this is the first time EVER that I have heard of someone sited under that law in exclusion of any other violation.

Its curious you identified an "cop/ATF guy"... ATF, does not have that jurisdiction, and the home rule ban is a matter internal to denver. So who exactly did this person work for?

The Cherry creek range is not in Denver City or County. County line breaks to the north at 225 and to the east at Yosemite.

A "cop/ATF officer guy"? You got a ticket and had property confiscated and you don't even know by whom?

I think he means a range officer. I talked to him earlier.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.
