    Default Colt SP1's

I have a well used 20" SP1 and wouldn't mind another one for the future. They handle better for me than most of the modern AR's do.

I see an early 3 prong model for sale here for $1800 and a 1981 model on THR in the $1300 range. Both appear almost new. Are the early models any better? Or are they best as collectors?

Skytech, That's my SP1 on THR! I just sent you a PM on it.

I like this version too. I had three, almost new SP1's. I'm keeping the one I started shooting with, sold one at the club and just put the last one on The High Road. You got me to thinkin' about having two. I'll decide after the Holiday. Cheers.

CMMG is just finishing a run of pencil barrels in 1/12 and 1/7 for those that want the handling of the SP1 wihtout the cost of an original. They are doing a 16" and a 20". I have a 16" 1/12 and the thing is weighs nothing. There was also some talk of someone doing a run of A1 uppers, not the C7 style uppers like Bushmaster sells.

In the retro forum on arfcom, there is a dealer selling new A1 lowers.

Thanks coloar15. The overall light weight (due mostly to the thinner barrel) and shorter, fixed stock are probably the two main reasons the SP1 pattern works well for me.

    Hawk, got your PM. Thanks!
