I would also like to add my thanks to Dino and Charlie that ran things while I went and shot the LE 3-Gun match in Lake George. Without people helping, these matches would not happen.

I hope to see some of you next Sunday for the Annual AK vs AR match and everyone else next month for the PD Match.

    Great time.

Ya, it was a little cold, I was under dressed. But hey, I would do it again in a second.

You should be one of the thankees, not the thankers. So...thanks Dino! You and Tom put on a great match. I look forward to it all month.

So, anyone got a spare rifle, maybe in .223? I have a good friend coming in to town who will be here for the December match. He'd like to shoot, but just recently injured his right shoulder pretty good and doesn't think he can tolerate the recoil of my .308. The only other rifle I own is my .22 trainer, and I don't think I have 17 mils of elevation on my scope.

I've been thinking of this one but not sure I have the hardware. My 308 is a DPMS 20inch and does not yet have a scope. Any recomendation on a reasonable scope for that platform?

My other option is a carbine with a fixed 4 acog or my A2 service rifle.

The ACOG is *not* a good choice. Not because it is a bad scope, but because simply seeing the targets at 250 yards plus at 4X will be difficult.

Your budget will determine how much scope to get.

For just holding over/off, any scope will work. When you start "clicking" you want to start spending some more $$$.

I would find a used Leupold 6.5-20 for $350-400 and give it a try.

Money is an unknown, want to get the best value and not need to rebuy soon but like everyone else would like to spend as little as reasonable.

My first question would be what magnification do I want to look for? Fixed or variable?
Also, what about reticles options, being new to scopes I am not fixed on anything?

Hoser's advice above is sound. I would personally like 14X or so as a minimum, and I don't think you can have too much. I like high power variable because you can always turn it down if you have too much. Reticles are easy, they should be graduated to match the click value on the knobs. MOA knobs, moa reticle. Mil knobs, mil reticle. Aside from that, I like them to be pretty fine, thin lines.

Conventional wisdom says Leupold is the minimum point of entry if you plan to dial for elevation, not just hold over. Moving up in dollars you next hit Nightforce which I think offers the best value. There are a whole bunch of $400 and under options that are hotly debated and discussed on other forums, and some of those are probably adequate. I have a $300 scope on a .22 trainer that is amazing for the money.

For about $1,700 you can buy once and never have to think about it again (unless you get into the super high end stuff). Spend less than that (new prices) and I predict you'll be shopping again if you stick with it.

I'll echo that. Great match and some great shooting. Thanks to all who helped out!

Had a good turn out. Glad to see some new shooters. We are lucky to have such a fun and challenging match to shoot.

Be patient for the scores. Hoser isn't feeling well. He will post them though.

Tom Phillips shot an excellent match. I think next match I will have to dial his yardages for him!! What ya think Tom??

I say we reset his knobs and not tell him the settings. At least we will get a head start on him then.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.
