That wind was brutal, for a rookie like me. Probably not the best conditions to try and learn the dope on a new rifle! But that was a kick in the pants. Thanks, Hoser! And good to see you there, Mike!
Good times!! That 610yd PDog was no joke, I was just happy to get with in a few inches of it! See you all next month.
Well we officially made the move up to the 600 yard range and everyone survived.
Huge thanks to Dino for being my right hand man and thanks to Stan for again helping with set up.
Turns out that the 600 is nowhere near as sheltered from the wind as the 425 was. The scores reflected that. The winds in the morning were stronger, but not nearly as switchy.
The 613 yard dog was only hit 13 times total. Only four people managed to hit it more than once and only one score was over 300.
All in all, only three of the targets are further than they used to be. However, just like before people will figure it out, step up to the challenge and the scores will be up there again. In the end we will all be better shooters and better at reading the wind because of it.
Within the next couple months the morning match will remain small targets with a 15 second time limit. The afternoon match will change to a more speed/action orientated match with some bigger targets. Obviously it will be more semi-auto friendly than single shot friendly, but the time limits will be long enough for a single shot to reload and twist knobs.
Good luck to everyone headed to Douglas WY next weekend for the Snipers Hide Cup.
See you all next month.

What a difference from the old range. It's been a long time since I held full value at a PD match consistently, but that's what some of those strings seemed to require. Not that I'd know, Saturday was humbling.
I agree with Hoser that this new venue is going to make us all much better shooters, and I'm looking forward to learning whatever there is to learn from that switchy damn wind.

Lots of people were there early to help. Dino and I tremendously appreciate it. We could and would not do it without you.
The rimfire targets worked as advertised. Farthest target was 120 yards and it was a 2.5 and a 5 inch circle. Close target was 50 yards and it was a .65 and 1.25 inch triangle. The shooter had the option of going for the points by shooting the little targets or half points on the big targets. A little strategy was involved. Kind of a "know your limits match" within a match.
Stewart set a new semi-auto record with his AR-10 chambered in 260. He also had the high score for the day of 370.
Hope to see you all next month.
Below is some pics of the new rimfire targets. Tim and I mainly shot the small targets to get the points while the wind was down.
Top Circle, 2.5 inch dia. Bottom 5.0 inch dia. The small target is worth 10 points and the big is worth 5 points.
The stars were at 90 yards, kinda like at the Sportsmans Team Challenge. Tough friggin target. They look big but the actual area to aim at is pretty small. You can see a hint of a nick on the top of the right point. That counted as a hit.
The rectangles are going to prove to be one of the most difficult targets. Lots of slop with up and down, but your wind call had better be spot on. Tim was perfectly centered up. I got lucky and caught the top of the target.

Don't let the pics fool you... these targets are pretty darn small.. and looks like fun as hell
I need to get my 22 better prepped for the next one.
Whore monger Mike!
Slinging coconuts since ever since...
The .22 targets were fun. They might need to go back a bit though, the scores were pretty high. A .22 trainer is such an affordable and entertaining way to learn to shoot in the wind I'm surprised more guys don't have them. I'm into mine for under $700 including the rifle, scope, stock, rings, 25 MOA rail, and bipod. Good ammo is expensive by .22 standards, but still way less than centerfire ammo.
All you .22 shooters need to bring your toys next month.

Another one in the books. Many thanks to Tom P and Rick B for helping me set up. It is very much appreciated. Conditions were pretty good for October. Not many shooters but a lot of fun none the less. Thanks to all who helped during the match. As Hoser states over and over this match is only possible with everyone's help. I did not have to ask once for help during the match. Great job everyone and thank you!!!!!
Results were emailed out. If you didn't get them send me a PM and I will get them to you.

Those were the windiest conditions I've tried to shoot in, but it was a blast! Nice to see everybody - quite a turnout. Great to see some new faces too.
