    Default AR Lower Reciever

I am looking to start my first build and I am trying to figure out where I could find a lower receiver. I'm still relatively new and my understanding is I can't purchase one online without an FFL. This brings up 2 questions for me.

    1. Is there anywhere in the Boulder/Denver area that sells lowers and the parts kits individually?

    2. My state of residence is New York (out here for college), would a store even be able to sell me a firearm?

I believe you have to be a resident of the state or military personnel posted in the area to purchase a weapon, but I am not 100% on that. Not sure on what the residency requirements are for your school but there may be an advantage to simply becoming a Colorado resident anyway.

There are several places that sell lowers and parts.

Bowers Tactical and BP Tactical keep all sorts of AR parts on the shelf and are a wealth of knowledge.

I mean technically I am in the Navy as Reserve status since the Navy is paying for me to go to school, ROTC, but I doubt that will cut it. I was told by a guy at Dick's that I had to be a resident, but I talked to a guy at Blu Core today who said he can sell to me as long as the firearm is legal in my home state. How far are those from Boulder?

I have no idea, but it might get you done. Honestly I would just go fill out the form and see what happens. Worse thing is that you dont get approval and at least you know.

Google maps is your friend, I try and avoid Boulder at all costs, and when I cant I am in and out as quick as possible.

EDIT- I think I was wrong, and so is the guy at Dicks- I believe Colorado laws allow you to purchase a rifle from any FFL dealer. Just go fill out your 4473, pay the money and walk out.

Sorry but neither of those 2 sell lowers as far as I know.
Machine Gun Tours in Lakewood does though.

It's my understanding you can buy a long gun but not a handgun. Not sure how that would play out with a stripped lower. Contact one of the local dealers and I am sure they can tell you for sure. You might try Machine Gun Tours in Lakewood or Lock and Load Armory in Thornton (?). Jensens in Loveland is another option. Or maybe 5280 Armory in Arvada.

    Good luck.

I know Bowers doesnt carry lowers yet, however I was commenting more on the parts aspect. While you can pick up a lower from a few locations, Bowers and BP tend to have EVERYTHING you need to assemble an AR in a variety of configurations, except for a .625" forearm triangle... those seem made of unobtanium...

If you are an out of state student but can prove residency here I believe that qualifies you as a resident.
If you are in the military and have orders stationing you here, that also qualifies you as a resident IIRC.
You will not have a problem purchasing a firearm here if you meet residency requirements.
Where you will have issues is taking it home to NY. They have very restrictive laws on semi automatic weapons.
Given the fact that you may not be able to take it home with you you may be better off buying a complete rifle instead of building your dream rifle.
Pieces and parts: MGT, 5280, Bowers and Jensens all maintain a good supply of bits and pieces.
MGT, 5280 and Jensens can supply you with a lower.
I generally do not stock many parts. I prefer the customer to supply components.

You can build it and bring it back as long as it's NY complient
Non collapsable stock, bayo lug and flash hider.
You can pin the stock open if you get a collapsable stock, get a MUZZLE BREAK,as opposed to flash hider (all in the wording) And well who realy uses the bayo lug?

But if you get a PRE-BAN reciever skys the limit,I just recently got rid of my pre ban reciever due to the fact I'm now in a free state
