    Default Transfer time question.

I have another question about form approvals and I haven't been able to find an answer.

If I buy an NFA item that is on a form 4 in another state I know it has to be transferred to an SOT before it can be shipped here (including a 2nd tax stamp).

Is the approval time on this transfer the same as it is for an individual (6 months) or more like the form 3 (1 - 2 months from what I've been told recently)?

What I'm getting at is if an item is on a form 4 in another state is it going to take a year or more to get it?

It doesnt have to go to a SOT in the other state first; it can come direct to your FFL/SOT from the seller. Its still two F4s and a year wait though.

Thanks for the info. I was worried that's what the answer would be.

May have found one (on Form 4) so just want to clarify. I work out the terms with the seller, seller starts paperwork with my local Class III (will this be a Form 4 or 3). I should expect roughly 6 months for this given current wait times. After this is complete I can start my Form 4 paperwork with my local dealer and expect another 6 months.

    Thanks

Dammit... I just read about this transfer from shop to shop only taking 2 weeks at the least a month or so ago, and I can't find and remember the damn site

... I'm trying to recollect what I read was strictly about transfers made from manufacture to a shop... or a transfer from shop to shop... either way, I don't believe there should be a reason for a transfer from shop to shop (from different states) should take that long...

    .. just saying

I think you're right about that if it's on a Form 3 but this one is owned by a private party on a Form 4 so I want to verify what the approx transfer time should be from an individual to my local Class 3.

    Damn... that's a good one...

I think it's still the same... if it were being transferred to a shop from a private owner.... hhhmmm*... shit man! That got me stomped...
I'd give the people at the BATFE a call just to get a feel, but then again... I'm a little sketchy about who's answering the phones there. Getting shady answers from a temp worker and not from an actual BATFE employee (or bad answers from both) is what will only mess with your emotions.

This has to be a bad ass NFA item or a great deal for a 1 year wait... either way, I feel it's to wait 6 months for anything...

Sorry I wasn't much help. Good luck man.. hope it all works out for you

You're correct. 6 months to your dealer then 6 months to you.

I'm in the middle of that now. I bought a Registered Lightning Link from an out of state seller that is on a Form 4. Machine Gun Tours received it Friday Nov. 23. Saturday I went in and they prepared the Form 4s for me to send in. I have all the paperwork in the envelope ready to drop in the mail Monday.

And then wait another five or six months.

At least I got to fondle it.

MGTS are good at this. Quick and painless.

Individual to dealer and dealer to individual both take six months.
