I think the confirmable number of deaths by legally owned NFA weapons, by the owner (as in, not stolen) is 2. No, I don't have the source.

I believe this is correct. One was by a LEO and the other was a Joe Schmuck.

I wish Mittens would have quoted stats from Clintons ban: less than 1/10th of one percent of all firearm related crimes were committed by a lawfully owned Assault weapon during the ban period.
That is the entire reason it was not reinstated.

    According to Wikipedia (who knew?)

While NFA weapons as a whole are perceived by the American public as dangerous[citation needed], their use in crime is exceedingly rare. Legally-owned (ie, NFA-registered) machine guns have been used in only two murders since 1934, one of which was committed by a police officer.[9] A previous director of the ATF testified before Congress[citation needed] that fewer than ten registered machine guns (out of over 240,000 in the nation) have ever been used in any type of crime (including nonviolent offenses such as failing to notify ATF of address changes, etc.). The criminal use of other legally-owned NFA weapons is similarly rare. The Title II weapons used in prominent crimes, such the AK-47s used in the North Hollywood shootout of 1997, have universally been illegally-owned or illegally-converted weapons.

    very interesting.

so now...if that because they are sooo hard to get? might be best to keep this info quiet or the antis will use it as a premise to use NFA regulations for all firearms....you know...to keep the guns out of the hands of the bad people.

There have been two murders committed with legally owned, NFA registered machine guns. One was a police officer that used a full auto M11 in .380 to kill a police informant, the other one. I don't remember the details of the other one other than it was in the early 90s in Ohio (actually I think both happened in Ohio ... what the hell's in the water there?).

The vast majority of crimes committed with NFA registered weapons are related to the improper possession and/or transfer of said weapons or the possession of narcotics along with an NFA weapon.
