Any updates on Genie or Hopper?

I'm leaning towards Dish with the Hopper at the moment (3 TVs) so any recent experience would be appreciated. I've never had Dish or DTV, only Comcast so either will be a big change.

I've had the hopper since shortly after it came out. Pretty happy with it. One thing to note is the record 6 shows at once means it automatically records 4 local stations during "prime time" from 7-10 or something like then you can record 2 others on whatever station you want. Works well for me since the wife only watches the CBS/NBC/ABC/FOX crap. So she doesn't have to stop my recording in progress stuff to watch local channels. Then she can go back and watch american idol, bachelor, whatever when I'm not there.

The 1st year of our 2-year contract with DirecTV just ended... upping the price from 40-something to 80-something. Still cheaper than Comcast, I guess.

I feel like Comcast has screwed us, but it's my fault for not changing sooner. We have phone, Internet and cable but I was a bit shocked when it went up to $250 per month.

Is it possible to set up more than 2 to record during prime time or are you stuck at just 2? Also, can you specify a number to keep in the DVR? Many times I'll wait till I have 6 or 7 episodes recorded before catching up and others I'll keep a rolling recording of 5 episodes.

    This is with xfinity DVR.

It actually sounds like Dish may not work with the way I use the DVR. It doesn't look like it's possible to store 3 months of a prime time show before watching any of them or pick certain prime time shows and keep a rolling recording of a certain number of episodes. Actually it may work but I can’t tell if it will use a 2nd tuner on top of the one recording prime-time.

Also, can you set priority and channels? Say I want to record every King of the Hill on every possible channel and have that as a top priority and keep 20 of them.

I have about 40 different shows set up to record based on priority and for most I keep a different number of episodes. For the most part we don't watch anything live.
