I don't have it but I will be interested in your experience.
I have Whole Home DVR from DirecTV and really like it. Hopefully Genie will be a good upgrade.
.................DIRECTV
Have had the Genie and 3 mini clients for over one month now....Pure betta SHITTTT...
1..Main reciever freeze up EVERY day. Must reboot everyday.
2..Recorded shows play back on ocassion, but more often then not just lock up the entire house.
3..Mini Clints in other rooms take a good 45-50 seconds to get a menu, then another 20 before the show selected appears. And scrolling through the menu, forget it.
4..Tech Support says its a known issue and "Were working on a fix"...Ya sure.
And to boot, I got fucked out of the $200 dollar rebate because the CSR coded my order wrong....All this because Dish stopped carrying The Walking Dead. I get screwed, and Dish gets AMC back again.....![]()

Hopper and Joey!! I am biased
But I've read nothing but bad things about the genie
"An armed society is a polite society when a man may have to back his last words with gunplay."
My Feedback
I have the genie... Or whatever they are calling the HR34... Works great for me.
I have 2 HR34's and 4 C31's with a Samsung TV that has an RVU built in.
Pandora works, HD pucture in picture works... Sometimes the clients are slow to respond as fast as the "genie" box is... But that's to be expected...
In 1 year of using it, I have had to hard boot the HR34 maybe twice.
All I know is DTV's picture is second to none... Love it and DTV's menu system
Going on 85 days with the Genie.
1. I have to reboot the 34 at LEAST once a week
2. Mini clients freeze images on the screen on occasion.
3. Recorded programs are missing from the folders till you reboot, then they show up.
4. Have called tech support more times than I can count. "Were working onthe issue sir" My Ass..It's beta shit.
Finally I had enough, called the retention team, said I would like these things replaced with normal receivers. They told me sure, but I had to pay full price for all new equipment, and yes they did acknowledge an issue with the Genie, particularly with the clients. I was blown away, basically they said tough shit, either pay for different equipment, cancel service and pay $420 termination fee, or live with the problems until they are fixed. And no, I could not talk to a manager, as the rep I spoke with said she is the end of the line on these issues. I will pay those fuckers the $420 to get away from DIRECTV. You can be rest assured I will get my money’s worth through bad publicity, using every outlet I have to bad mouth those fuckers. I’m sick of the way these companies treat people.
And Wax_Job, consider yourself very lucky my friend. You are by far the exception. Doubt me. Search Google.

I install audio video systems for a living. I have done a few Genie/Client systems without any issues.
If you are having problems with your Genie system either the firmware hasn't been updated, you have bad wiring or fittings on the cable in your home or you have electrical issues in your house. The opposite of an electrical surge is known as a brown out. This is where the voltage drops instead of surges. if you have ever been sitting there and your lights dimmed for a second and then when back to normal this is a brown out. Brown outs will seriously fuck with electronics.
This is a bad fitting, see how the inner dielectric (white insulator) is not flush with the inside of the fitting? This will cause ghosting in regular TV signals and a plethora of issues in cable and satellite systems. Other possible issues, loose connectors, copper clad steel cable over long distances vs solid copper wire, barrel connectors that are not rated for the proper frequency responses. Other electrical system issues that will cause problems.. ground differentials (ground loops) in your electrical system.
