I had a Colt SP-1 that did not have a forward assist. As others have stated, as long as the gun is clean there should be no need for a forward assist. If, for whatever reason, the round does not completely chamber, you can push the bolt forward with your thumb . . . but if it is hot from rapid firing 3 mags you'd want to be wearing a thin glove.
You fools! without a forward assist how will you ever conduct SPORTS?
Just call me 47
Just throwing it out there. HK 91, 93, G3 ect. don't have the forward assist and were never up graded fore them either.
Do they even still teach SPORTS?!
Whenever we do rifle range training at work one of the instructors always brings up the topic of clearing a malfunction. I pretty much bring up SPORTS without fail every time. Only a couple people even know what I'm talking about, but I always chuckle.
