Westminster motorcycle rider dead after Boulder Canyon wreck

A 29-year-old Westminster man was killed Saturday when he crashed his 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle into the side of car he was attempting to pass and was then run over by another vehicle in Boulder Canyon, officials say.

At 3:40 p.m, the rider, whose identity has not been released, was driving eastbound on Boulder Canyon Drive near mile post 32 when he attempted to pass four cars on the two-lane road in a no-passing zone, according to Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Mike Baker.

The rider tried to slip back into the eastbound lane between the first and second car in line, but clipped the first car, according to investigators. He fell off his motorcycle and landed in the westbound lane where he was run over by an oncoming car, Baker said.

The rider was not wearing a helmet, according to initial reports. He was declared dead at the scene.

No one else was hurt in the accident, Baker said, and the drivers of the two other vehicles involved cooperated with investigators at the scene.

Officials are investigating if alcohol or excessive speed played a role in the wreck.

Boulder Canyon Drive was closed in both directions between Hurricane Hill and Sugarloaf Road for four hours after the accident.

This happened in an area called The Narrows. Steep grade and tight turns.

I knew the people in car #4. They still are not having a good day.

Agreed. I wasn't also shocked in the least bit to see he wasn't wearing a helmet. Not that it would've made any difference from the sound of it. Regardless, majority of people I see riding Harley's don't wear helmets. I know, keeping you brain pan intact just isn't cool.

I don't wear a helmet. It has nothing to do with being cool. It's because I'm just more comfortable that way. The only person I put in danger is myself. If it gets me killed one day then someone somewhere will probably start a thread about what a dumbass I am. But had I been in that guys place I would probably be just fine because I wouldn't have been riding like a dipshit in the first place.
