Ah... I should have stated that every bad crash I have ever witnessed or been apart of was on a closed course circuit so it is about the safest environment you can ride a motorcycle at speed.

Interesting how motorcycle threads always turn to helmets.

Which i do not condemn those (like me) who CHOOSE not to wear them. It's a choice, like a gun. As a former mc rider and a gun owner i don't care if you wear a helmet or not. Don't care if you own a gun or not. Some feel if you do not wear a helmet it's stupid. YET say the same about owning a gun and their tune changes.

its like the anti seatbelt guys saying they will get thrown to safety

Helmet is apparently not a factor...
But passing 4 (FOUR???) cars at once on a two lane road?
    Now, that is retarded.
I have been on two wheels for 30 years now, and, knock on wood, I never broke a single bone in my body.
And yes, i did ride hard in my younger years (those who know me better know what I am talking about).
    Sorry, stupid should hurt.

a helmet would not have saved this guy from stupid .
"he attempted to pass four cars on the two-lane road in a no-passing zone"
lets see , do we act like a bunch of lib commies and start screaming about helmets or do we point to the obvious ? the stupidity of trying to pass not 1 but 4 cars in the mountains and a no passing zone at that .
wearing a helmet is like carrying a firearm , you do or you dont , not much middle ground there

I was in a motocycle accident back in May. It was a road rage incident and I wont go into details right here.

My safety gear saved my tail.
I was ejected and then impacted on the vehicle then on the pavement and then
slide for around 100ft. If I had not had a helmet, jacket, gloves, pants and boots, I wouldnt be typing this today.

Im at about 80% back from being injured. No broken bones...just banged up really bad and
ligament issues. Im itching to get back and ride. It was his fault and thats one of
the risks we take when we ride. That risk is the other drivers and their negligence.
This guy took his own life into his hands, he made decisions that can not be reversed.
Faulting someone for not wearing a helmet or whatever is BS. They chose to
not wear this or that and they are then accepting the consequences of their decisions.
Darwin definatly won on this and I feel for the family of the rider and I feel for
    the people in the vehicle.

Wearing a helmet is a personal choice. But choosing to wearing one is the only intelligent choice. I have ridden motor cycles for ten years now and a helmet is probably the only reason I am alive or not a vegetable. Regardless of your type of riding, speed you are traveling, or where you are at it provides significant protection and will save your life. I was riding at the speed limit obeying all laws and the lady just did not see me as she pulled out. Ride as safe as you want but you must realize that you are on a road filled with dumb teenage distracted drivers (also liberals drive and are not much better) and sometimes you will pay the price for their stupidity.

This guy was obviously riding like an idiot. I don't know why people feel the need to ride / drive like jackasses. I think it is because they have never actually ridden on a track or had a serious accident. There are two types of motorcycle riders, there are those who have crashed and those who will. Hopefully your crash teaches you a lesson, but as we can see sometimes your lesson only serve as a lesson to others. I feel for the families involved on all sides of this, he probably had no idea what he was doing and wanted the adrenaline rush. Hopefully a couple smarter people considering riding will see this story and make better choices.

Here is a pic of the Narrows. Add in to this steep grades. Boulder Falls is at the top north/east side of the pic. What part of this road looks like a good passing area?

I doubt a helmet would have improved anyone's decision making skills.
