Some of the costs such as planned meals already paid for so my play money is mainly in addition to that. (And I prefer local vendors vs tourist trap and/or nice places.) Was like that in Czech Republic, eat at foreigner establishment for $$$ or eat locally for $3.
In Taipei most everything goes on within ten blocks of Sogo or at the Warner Plaza by Taipei 101. You can ask someone to take you to the night markets as well which are a lot of fun. I had snake blood one night and it was an experience.

Street vendor food is amazing everywhere.

Kenting is awesome if you like beaches and/or surfing. That's a little south. Beautiful place.

Nope, never had a problem with anything in Taipei, in over twenty visits. Mainland China? India? Very different story. Taipei is just fine. No, strike that. It's great. Fantastic restaurants everywhere.
