Here is how my morning started off.

The first picture was where I was standing when my foot slipped out from under me. I landed on my back and quickly started sliding feet first over the edge. I was trying to lay flat and use my body to slow me down. I was pressing my palms down for purchase, trying to find a sheet metal screw head, but was having no luck. I reached the conclusion that I was going to go over the edge and reserved myself. I made a last ditch effort to try and stop by putting both palms on the edge of the gutter, but didn't have high hopes. The gutter quickly ripped off and dumped me over the edge. That white flower pot was plastic and full of dirt, with the blue one right next to it on the sidewalk. I smash landed onto those flower pots like a cartoon and rolled into the yard. It continued to rain for the rest of the day, and probably for the rest of this week. That was just my first appointment.

Irv, you need to invest in a drone brother.

I hate to laugh at other?s misfortune but since you obviously survived I don?t feel so bad about being amused by your tumble. Hopefully replacing their flower pot doesn?t set you back a small fortune.

Any landing you can walk away from...

Could you do your outdoor roof survey work with a drone? You may not pay the full price for these types of injuries now, but your body will likely be paying interest on these injuries when you get past 50 and 60 years in age.

    Be safe.

Drones are used in the industry, but they sure cost a lot and add a lot of hassle for their limitations.

Broken bones and paralysis would seem to be much more hassle with greater limitations. You know your limits. I will pray for your safety.

Did the homeowners demand you pay for their broken planter or were they sympathetic over your use of their roof for your luge training?

The damages in this town are basically a tornado. That gutter for example, was already partially ripped off the house already, so it was getting paid for, and what I landed on was the pile of broken yard decorations. While I had cash on hand to pay for anything, anything in question was already getting bought. Right after this, I crawled around in the dirt crawl space counting how many floor joists and support beams were cracked from the wind trying to push the house off the foundation. All that to say that under normal circumstances, that would have been an issue, but in this case, they are probably happy that their house is still standing.

No one came outside to see what was going on. At some point it was mentioned that they thought they heard a sound and hoped it wasn't me falling off the roof. If the window were open, they would have seen me fall past them onto the ground like some comedy movie.

Maybe you could use your fall protection equipment.

    I can also testify to

My stuff doesn't really work on low slope roofs. The real issue is that you shouldn't be on a metal (or woodshake) roof in any kind of moisture. It's one of those things where you get complacent when things aren't scary 100% of the time. Just one of those playing with fire and getting burned events. I'm glad I'm okay to. Thanks.
