Exactly what sensation does weightlessness impart on someone completely paralyzed?
ETA: I'm a dick. I did not realize Hawkings has ALS, or what ALS really is.
I did some research and found out that ALS sufferers can still feel. It's not the same as being paralyzed due to a spinal injury.
They are unable to control their muscles because their brain's motor neurons slowly die and no longer send signals down to the muscles.
However, their nerves are still sending signals up to the brain and they can still feel.
What a crappy disease.
Hope Hawkings had as much fun in the "Vomit Comet" as he appears to have had.
