So I am sitting here and it's 6:50pm with my woman and little 15 month old daughter watching tv. It's not too late but dark. The door bell rings and I head downstairs to answer it and when I am almost to the door it sounds like someone is turning the door knob so I position myself behind the door with my foot behind it so it will only open about 2 feet and I can peek around it while I answer. I do that so if someone were to try and barge in I can have a good chance stopping them and shutting the door. (I know maybe I am a little paranoid). As I peek around someone has their back turned and seems to be walking away and before I say anything he turns and is like "awraarrarawa" at least that is what I hear so I make a fist and get ready to knock his ass out then he says "I am sorry, I wanted to give you this info on blah blah blah" and I am like "You scared the SHIT out of me" then he reaches down to pick brochures up off the ground which obviously is what sounded like the door knob being turned was just stuff he was sticking into my door. He then asks "did you already vote?" I say "Yes" and shut the door. God damn! Idk if I over reacted and may just be paranoid over all the crazies lately or what but I am all fired up!

No I did not have my gun on me but if he were to have tried to barge in I would of slammed the door on his ass, locked it, ran upstairs for my gun which is close by and had the woman call 911. Just incase.

I have a "No Soliciting" sign on my front door. When some inconsiderate ass leaves a hand bill I try to catch up with them and politely tell them: "I do not leave trash on your door, please do not do the same to me"
Usually works ok.
Who was he representing? Coming through a door is inappropriate, I would contact whomever he was representing and advise them of his actions.

I didn't catch who he was representing, it was a couple names but I do need to get a No Soliciting sign. He wasn't actually trying to come in lol it was just the sound of the crap he was stuffing into the door. I didn't know what else it was so I made it out like he was trying to turn the door knob. When I opened it and he turned around quickly going arraararaasgh or whatever the hell he said it put me on guard.

Solicitation is down 80-85% with the sign, but there are some turds still ring my bell to sell magazine/vitamin drinks, chocolate, etc.

A sign helps but then you get the ones that will inform you "But I am not selling anything" OK, so you saw the "No Trespassing" sign next to it as well?

I never chastise the kids that are selling for the high school or girl scouts but I do take issue when I see a white van with Indiana plates hit the hood and 8 teenagers fall out selling magazines. I always like when they claim it is for the local school.

Besides the NO SOLICITING sign, the town provides free. We have a
DAY SLEEPER DO NOT RING BELL / DISTURB sign too.
