Default Java keeps restarting my computer

Hey guys, I tried doing a quick Google search, and only came up with people having more serious issues. At least once a day, my computer starts itself over again, and I lose everything I kept up. I am constantly getting pop-ups that Java has an update, so I think it is Java doing this. What is the remedy here? Uninstall and reinstall Java?

    Thank you in advance.

I had a similar problem with Java on my PC. I uninstalled it. Haven't really missed it.

do you have an anti-virus program?

    did you install malware bytes?

I think you may have a virus, I got something similar a few months back.

are you getting a lot of pop-ups or when you do a google search it goes to random websites that aren't anywhere near your search?

Windows Automatic Update will do this. there is a way to turn it off, probably just need to go google it.

    Shoot me a PM...

If it is really Java restarting your machine, there are some easy ways to stop it from updating.

Do you get the UAC popup right before the Java updater starts? I'd find it hard to believe that Java would be doing that unless something is corrupt. I'd uninstall it and reinstall. If you look through event viewer under the system and application logs, any errors/warnings that correlate with the times your computer is randomly shutting down? Does your machine actually shut down cleanly like you told it to shutdown/restart or does it just die?

That was going to be another question. Do I NEED Java?

Yes to anti-virus. No to pop-ups and Google question.

I haven't looked through the event viewer. I believe this computer has a history of things not downloading correctly, then effecting everything that I try to download after that. I don't actually download a lot of programs, but I know I have had this problem before.

Thanks for the help so far guys. I'll wait till I get the next pop-up for the Dell thing and post exactly what it is.

Somebody smarter than me will have to answer that. I don't. I don't know what it did for me but, whatever it was, I haven't missed it a bit. And my computer runs much better.

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.
