Decided to test it out and see how it works got 7 pints of pork and beans. Figured that'd be cheap enough if I screwed up no big loss. Still boiling in the jar and they all went ping. Way easier than I was expecting.

What size did you get? How soon are you going to eat one to test it out?
"There are no finger prints under water."
I got a 23qt presto was $80 on amazon with free shipping.
I'll probably pop one in a few days.
Oh, that's big. You're talking a pressure cooker, and not just a water bath right?

Hopefully he is talking about a pressure canner. When canning meat you have to use a pressure canner. I can several of my own soups now. I have split pea, navy bean, chicken tortilla, and jambalaya all sitting on the shelf now. Congrats Nick on getting started with canning. If you have any questions this forum is a great place to get info. I have only been canning for a few years now but I am hooked and can all kinds of stuff now.
Presto only makes pressure canner. That looks yummy!!
Yup pressure canner. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000BYCFU/
I figured I leave the weight off and it'll double as a water bath, if I ever do jams or something. Figured off the bat I'd mostly be doing "meal in a jar" type of stuff though.
the 23qt really isn't all that large it's tall for sure but the foot print isn't that bad it'll do 7 quarts, or I think up to 20 pints if you double stack them. Heats up pretty quick too.
Ohh and walmart had their own branded jars that are almost half the cost of the kerr or ball.
Bravo! The more that know this art the better! Looks awesome!
I personal preference, once they pop and cool I never store with the rings on the lids. They could potentially mask the contents of a jar going bad.
I have that same canner, Ohh and FYI, when It says not to use an outdoor burner type... It means DON'T use a turkey fryer burner. Yeah that was disastrous for me.
