I want to see the looks on your neighbors faces when the whole area is dark, and you're drinkin beer and watching TV with lights on while they stand in the street with an old flashlight they took a half hour to dig out.... Good work!

i actually don't mind just having the power off, period. the only thing i would turn on a generator for would be the fridge, one light and maybe if i had sewage or water pumps tied to electricity. its kinda nice when its quiet.

This is the visual I got too. "Kim and Tom" across the street staring at your house from their dark living room, candles in hand, frowning in jealousy.

This brings a question to mind. Obviously you would not be doing this^ if the S actually did HTF. What are your plans to prevent your well-prepared house from becoming a "shoot here" sign?

Just out of curiosity, what's the purpose of filling the tub and sinks with water?

If power goes out, water and gas are likely to follow. Best to get yourself some stores of water while you can.

Or, he wanted to take a bath, and do all the dishes by hand.

Keep in mind, folks in the Northeast are still struggling with clean water few weeks after sandy. While plenty of bottled water are being distributed, those who's lacking access to clean water for 'hygiene' and other reasons are risking running into many health issue. Flu season is here, pile of garbage are still unattended, more people in smaller area for those who are in the shelter can increase chances of diseases. Hygiene is part of survival to fight off sickness, and water plays extreme important part of it.
