    Default front sight ??

I ordered a 300 blkout upper and I think I want to remove the fixed from sight post. What all will be involved. Will need a new gas block obviously I would like a magpul flip up for back up. What am I up against? Any special tools, tips, tricks would be appriciated

Taper pins. Make sure you drive them the correct direction.
A heavy punch and hammer will pop them loose, a good sharp blow is better than light taps.

If you're going to hide the gas block under some sort of handguard anyways, I would just chop the front sight base down.

Here is one that Bert "chopped" for me.

MagPul recommends against putting them on a gas block due heat transferring causes them to melt.

If you are going with a low pro block and an FF rail, then you are GTG.

Bert (BPTactical) does awesome work. I have cut a few of them down myself and they look just fine but not as nice as the one he did for me.

I like to chop the sight bases and use them as gas blocks because A: it cost me nothing but time, and B: I like my gas blocks secured with taper pins and not some sort of set screws.

If you opt to do it yourself, I recommend a cut-off wheel to chop it and a file and some sandpaper to smooth it out. I usually just touch mine up with some "barbecue pit" paint when I'm done.

I am in the process of chopping mine down right now. i can throw up a few pictures if you want. I just took the top off for now, but it only took about 5 mins with the dremel.

I haven't gotten around to shaping it yet, but I plan to make it look basically like the one posted above. I'm going to use a sanding drum on the dremel to shape it. I'm holding off for a few days until I get some other parts. I can update when I get it done if you want. My biggest problem is that I can't get the darned thing off to work on it...
