Default Advice on AR 10 purchase

Short list includes: LMT MWSE, Larue OBR, GAP 10, Armalite SASS. ???

That's what I'm looking at, I am a bit new in this arena, I have typically shot bolt guns but want to get into an AR-10. Any inclusions, exclusions and the like are more than welcome.

    Thanks!

I doubt you could go wrong with any of the ones you listed. I'll toss the CMMG Mk3 in there as well. Skully has one and I was impressed enough with it to start putting one together for myself.

    Good luck.

Thanks! Any comment on billet vs forged? I know it has been covered before mostly for 5.56, but it seems that the top end makers (GAP, Larue, etc...) use billet, then again, LMT uses traditional forged receivers. Is there any compromise when it comes to strength? The GAP 10 initially caught my eye (POF Billet receivers). I have heard gripes about billet being weaker, but have also heard it is thick in the stress points which would negate the previous point. I am positive that I am over thinking this, just want to make the best decision the first time.

    Probably so.

The CMMG upper and lower receivers I am using are billet.

I'm saving toward an Armalite SAS complete upper to go with the AR10 carbine I currently have. One lower and two uppers, one for longer ranges and a carbine for fun.

LMT is solid. OBR is harder to catch than a gold toteing leprecan right now. My hat tips to the JP LRP-07. Extremely well made, accurate, runs like it's on ball bearings and the side charge is excellent. It's been around long enough to have any issues flushed out and JP customer service is tops. I love mine.

The sole reason I didnt do an Armalite or other offshoot 308. Better available parts, more options, and MAGPUL LR20 mags are SR-25 pattern!
