    Poison? Pantera? Really?

    I guess my 80s Metal experience was much different from y'all's.

    It involved guys like Yngwie Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, Jason Becker and an odd little record company called "Shrapnel Records"

    I always thought metal was pretty loosely defined. It seems to include bands from Pantera and Iron Maiden to Tool and Deftones. It damn sure isn't anything like Poison or Bon Jovi.

    I struggle with the necessity of labeling sub-genres at all. Ever looked at the list of genres available in iTunes to label your music? Death Metal, Speed Metal, Prog-rock, Indy, Alternative. . . It's still rock and roll to me.

    You all forget Anthrax and Megadeth.. But we used to call Metallica 'metal' back then as well.

    Poison != real Metal.

    Trash metal (Vektor), black metal (Immortal), grind metal (Cephalic Carnage), doom metal (The Sword), melodic death metal (Older Opeth), experimental (Dream Theater and such), fantasy metal (Dragon Force), etc, etc. Metal is ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome that is.

    Jammin to Black Sabbath Vol 4 at this time! Preceded by the Dead's American Beauty and Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow.
    This afternoon I think Robin Trower is on tap followed up by the Who.
