    If I had any ARs left, I would have a 6 mag loadout on my grab-and-go chest rig which does not include a loaded mag in the safe on each weapon... so 7 in the "ready to rock" category.

    If I am stuck in my house (if the Aurora PD hasn't set fire to my cabin, and later denied it) or near my bug out vehicle I am not going to ask the bad guys to wait while I reload some mags from stockpiled ammo. 16 loaded, 30 rd PMAGs fit in a .50 cal ammo box fit nicely with a pelican dessicant pack. So, more than one of those boxes are near the BOV at all times.

    I figure that is enough mags, but one should always have more ammo. 24 Federal 20 rd boxes of XM193 fit nicely in 30 cal ammo boxes.
    Honestly I think 1K of the ammo you practice with is minimum. But nowadays Ammo is an investment.
