If I had any ARs left, I would have a 6 mag loadout on my grab-and-go chest rig which does not include a loaded mag in the safe on each weapon... so 7 in the "ready to rock" category.

If I am stuck in my house (if the Aurora PD hasn't set fire to my cabin, and later denied it) or near my bug out vehicle I am not going to ask the bad guys to wait while I reload some mags from stockpiled ammo. 16 loaded, 30 rd PMAGs fit in a .50 cal ammo box fit nicely with a pelican dessicant pack. So, more than one of those boxes are near the BOV at all times.

I figure that is enough mags, but one should always have more ammo. 24 Federal 20 rd boxes of XM193 fit nicely in 30 cal ammo boxes.
Honestly I think 1K of the ammo you practice with is minimum. But nowadays Ammo is an investment.

I got 1 30 round mag. That's more than enough.

    I love the split.. 10, 20 or 100...

Would love to see a breakdown of who voted for what based on who was in combat and who lived through the first ban.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

2 combat loads per rifle. 14 mags per gun was our team SOP in A-Stan. One combat load on your kit, 1 combat load in a go bag.

    Seriously though.
    Funny story:
I'm a new AR owner and I told my wife that if the SHTF, she may need to help me reload. Without instruction, I handed her a mag and a few rounds. On her first attempt she tried to put it in backwards. I'm screwed!
Actually, she's a smart woman and she got it...now under pressure, she would worry me! So I may be screwed either way.

The kids know how to load a mag. However, If I am loading mags, that means I have gone through more than I care to, am in a serious firefight (which should be avoided at all costs during a SHTF scenario for many many reasons), and S really has HTF.

I have two 5 year old boys, so they will be taught, probably sooner rather than later.

I have to wonder for those that answered 100+...

Are you serious or is that just the closest answer to "you can never have enough"

I'm actually a little surprised that 10 is the most common answer...
