cheap laminate flooring?

I am shopping for flooring this week, anybody have some free? i am planning on the 69¢ a foot stuff from home depot or lumber liquidator but then i have to buy the underlayment also. Could i find the laminate with pad attached cheap enough to make that a better deal? I will eventually be doing 650 sq ft but i am gonna split it up and do 250 sq ft now (room and hall) then the main living room after the holidays to save money right now. Also evidentally the previous owner had pets that urinated/crapped in the back room (the one i am doing now) and now my wifes cats will do the same thing in that area every once in a while which is why i am stuck doing this project before our big christmas party, i see they had sprayed kills on the floor before carpeting and we have tried the vinegar trick but it didnt work so how the hell do you stop them?

Bleach solution for the flooring. Only thing is unless you break the cat from shitting there it will always return to the scene of the crime. With cheap laminate you get what you pay for. If it will be a high wear area spend a few more dollars. The underlayment is only a basic foam "pad" that allows to floor to "float". We've done a few laminate floors before and spending once saves headaches twice.

the house we just bought had 12 indoor cats. i think none of them were trained. it smelled so bad you couldnt stand it. we scrubbed the walls top to bottom with a vinegar solution. we sprayed on a product called ODO Ban http://www.odoban.com/ They sell it at home depot and maybe Sams. we kilzed the floors and lower walls. I also ran two ozone generators. Now we have no smell whatsoever.

I am laying oak hardwood floors right now. I have had laminate in the past, it just doesnt hold up to my lifestyle. wet boots, muddy boots, lots of foot traffic, kids, etc.

the oak was $2.84 a sqft. I am putting down about 800 sqft. The entire house will be oak hardwood, no carpet.

Once you clean the area thoroughly, pick up a gallon of kilz and paint over the area. This will seal it completely. I had to deal w/ cat piss, meth, human shit all in the same rental property. After the hazmat went through everything, they put down kilz on all the floor board and foundation.

i have access to a wholesaler, left over from my contractor days.

this flooring (http://evokeflooring.com/laminate) sells for nearly $5.00 per sf at places like carpet exchange and lumber liquidators, the underlayment is already attached to the product, it is very high quality laminate, I have four kids and am very happy with it.

I can get it locally through my wholesaler for less than $2.00, i paid less than $1100 for 650 sf in our kitchen and formal dining. pm me if you would like to head over to the showroom and browse.

they have carpet and all kinds of tile, hardwood etc. if anyone else needs a deal i can set you up. you need an invite from me or another contractor to get in.

Thanks guys. I picked up some laminate today from lumber liquidators on clearance. Course i had to drive to denver to get it but it was a good deal. It is "acclimating" now. So i will start sunday or monday, this is my first time so i will probably screw something up! I did get killz and will do that tomorrow morning.

Like HBAR said. Go with real hard wood. Not expensive, Last forever, can be refinished. My experience with Pergo type stuff is fragile and very water unfriendly. If you have low standards, and take whats cheap tile is not terribly expensive. Installing wood goes faster.
