Gritty Trigger

What can I do to help a gritty trigger be less gritty? (Spike's tactical is the current trigger)

if I have to disassemble the thing, I might as well get a different trigger, but I don't want to drop that much coin on something fancy.

Thoughts?

I put mine on a stone and made it a lot better. That was a DPMS though. My spikes is super smooth.

You can polish the engagement surfaces but be careful not to take too much off as the parts are "surface hardened" and if you go too far you will dramatically decrease the service life of the parts. Also, be careful not to change any of the engagement surface angles.

If you want an affordable replacement with a smooth out of the box pull for a reasonable price you might look at the ALG triggers. They are pretty much stock triggers with much better finishes than the stock stuff. The won't be gritty but they aren't a high-end match trigger either.

Here are some links. The first one is their standard trigger. The second one is their "combat" trigger which has a some sort of coating (nickel boron?) on it.

Either you're lucky, or I'm unlucky. I remember holding sub-moa groups with my 6.8. I put in on a spikes lower, and the trigger was not nice to me. Everything felt great, but that trigger. Agh it haunted my dreams!

i dont think bert is recommending doing that anymore(i could be wrong) i would go alg(60$) jp(120) or gisslee (210)

Try doing an internet search using "10 minute Trigger job". You will get many hits on ways of doing want you want.

2 Warnings though-

As mentioned before be very careful when doing anything to the sear/trigger engagement area. It doesn't take hardly anything to mess it up to be unsafe.

The other thing is Do Not pull the trigger and let the hammer hit on the lower. Always catch it. It can hit the receiver hard enough to damage the wall between the Bolt Hold Open and the hammer trigger area.
