Nynco, I seriously appreciate all of the helpful advice but it appears you and I approach things from a different angle.

I'm more of a "buy cheap and when it craps out in a year or two buy another one" type of a guy.

My computer isn't used for work and I rarely travel with it. It's main function is internet browsing and email. I don't do any gaming and don't run any fancy photo or video editing software. I know just enough about them that I can probably name a few of the internal components and maybe explain their basic function.

Heck, I could probably get by with some sort of tablet computer for my needs.

    Thanks.

I did not see this anywhere, but I have had good luck with Tigerdirect. They are refurbished computers, but they offer a warranty with them that is as good as the factory warranty if I remember correctly.

Other than that I would not buy anything from a box store. I would wait until cyber Monday and buy it online if you know what you want. I would go look around at a few machines and find what you want then look for an online sale from a reputable business. That is if you are not in too much of a hurry.

Perhaps you should find out what's actually wrong with your computer first? It could be something as simple as a fan that's caked up with dust that isn't cooling the processor anymore. I do side work like this all the time. Find out what's really wrong and then replace it.

This thing is probably three or four years old now. Pretty sure I got it around the holidays and payed less than $300 for it. I feel I have got my money's worth out of it. Time to let it go.
