Your starting to remind me of me and how I ended up with a locker full of knives-it's just like the BRD !!
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.
I like the glock knife. Mine came pretty dull. After a good deal of attention with the sharpmaker it took a nice edge. The point/tip was most disappointing and took a lot of work to get to a nice fine point. I don't pretend to know anything about fighting with it. But I made it sharp. I used the sandpaper convex edge method initially, but couldn't come close to the double bevel edge Sal condones using his sharpmaker.
I'm curious to know what you think about the sheath. I find it very secure, but awkward to access with one hand.
I have wanted a Busse battle mistress, or a Chris Reeve Jereboam for a long time now. The wife just can't handle the price of them... One can wish though.

As a student of various martial arts, including fencing and knife fighting, I am of the opinion that a walking stick or cane beats a knife every time. It has more reach, delivers more immediate 'target' incapacitation and is already in your hand. (It also is much easier to explain to local LEOs than a 9" sub-hilt fighter.) There is an old story about an English quarter-staff master who killed several Spanish swordsmen in a 'gentlemanly contest' (while a captive) during the Elizabethan-era war between their respective countries. I dare say Spanish swordsmen of that day were probably better fighters than most modern gang-bangers or would-be Jim Bowie types.
It is a good idea, however, to be able to use a knife properly, if that's all you have. I would place 'combat' suitability near the bottom of the list of required attributes for a knife.
Except when you learn to play the guitar you dont get cut. You will need someone to practice with, Cold steel makes some really nice training knives. find something that fits your hand well has good balance in your hand and stay awy from double edged as they limit the defensive use of the knife (when you bring it back against your forearm to block you risck cutting yourself). hatever knife you decide on buy 2, practice with the first one, as you will damage it while learning no good way around that. There are a few good books, and videos out there on the subject, and a few places that do classes. The old SAS guys hated the Sykes Fairbairn said it was to long so they would grind them down that is how the original Applegate Fairbain was created. I'e heard good things about Jim Hock. Then there is the all important part this is a last ditch skill there are folks out there that will take your knife away from you and use it on you and make it look easy, even after you cut him open

I have a couple of Ka-bars, including my late cousin's issue piece. The only thing I don't like about them is the tip is a bit delicate, and easy to break. The cousin's knife was broken this way when I got it; I re-ground the tip to more of a spear point. Otherwise, Ka-bars are great.
However, as mentioned by Hobowh, knives are a last ditch tool for combat. If you're talking about a combat situation, I consider a pistol to be a tool used to acquire a rifle. Same with a knife.

I like that Glock knife, if I was in the market for a new one I'd definitely look into it. Being former Army I still have the tanto point k bar I carried on my flight survival vest and my wife has a standard one from her Navy days plus a few knives her grandfather made. I also still have the issue survival knife, but it really isn't that great, hence why I bought a better one.
