    Default Ohio trip

Heading to Ohio, via Detroit, in a couple weeks. While I'm not happy about it, seems like the smart thing to do is leave the carry gun home. Gonna feel naked, hasn't been off my hip for 6 months.

Driving or flying? Your Colorado permit has reciprocity in pretty much all of the states you'd have to drive through, other than Illinois. Learn the rules, and you can carry in both OH and MI. Flying might actually be easier, since you wouldn't have to lock it up to transit IL.

Reciprocity info can be found at www.usacarry.com under resources. Carry laws for the various states can be found at www.handgunlaw.us .

Flying, but maps I've seen Ohio and Colorado on't have reciprocity. If I'm reading it wrong or someone has updated info, it would be greatly appreciated.

My mistake, you are correct: Ohio does not honor your Colorado permit. I actually got a Utah non-resident permit to get Ohio and several other states.

Check in baggage always has room for 1 if not 2 under 4" folding knives. Anytime we need to go back east the boker, benchmade and usually another for "backup" accompanies us.

You should get a UT non-resident permit. You'd be good in OH. Your CO permit is good in MI.

Carl, are you a Utah approved instructor?

Nope...expired earlier this year. Not enough demand to justify the cost of going to SLC to get recertified.

If you pack a gun for non-CCW, just in case of general mayhem or as they call it in Detriot "Tuesday", make sure you don't have loaded mags in your car in Ohio. They have some odd law about loaded mags, even outside the gun, even packed seperately.
