Thumbs up Ben Lomond Gun Club

I joined the Ben Lomond Gun Club a few years ago. They have a 600 acre range located South East of Kiowa off of Highway 86. It's kind of a haul to get there ( about 42 miles from where I live between Parker and Franktown ) but well worth the trip. It's run by the members, you lock the gate behind you. They have High Power out to 600 yards, sight in berms with covered bench's, several pistol berms, shot gun skeet and trap, camping and lots of organized matches. Chapters are located in Colorado Springs, Franktown and Englewood. I go out during the week (suffer I'm retired) and have the whole place to my self.

Check out their web site below as I have not done the Organization justice.

I "second" the motion on BLGC! It IS a long haul, but it's nice to go out there in the country. People are really friendly - if you even see anyone else. It's a "self policing" place, the members are responsibile for taking care of it, and in a way we're all "owners" and responsible for the upkeep. There's a "work bond" which asks that members put in at least 8 hours/year of "sweat equity" by working at the range on improvements, targets, maintenance, etc. For that work you get $80 off your annual dues. They've recently opened up some "training/competition" berms which frees up the load on the other "casual" berms.

The recently completed club house is beautiful (as beautiful as a pre-fab steel building is going to be). There are "modern" facilities (including showers), and the kitchen is almost done. The "family room" for lack of a better term, has been nicely setup. If it were closer, it'd be a great place to congregate. As it is, it's still a great place to meet up and/or warm up on a cold day at the range. They also have a nice parking area for campers (and room for tent campers also), there are even electrical hookups - for which they charge $10/day to offset the costs.

As of last Tuesday (Jan 1/15) the membership limit had been reached, so people wanting to join will probably have to go on a "wait list", but it's worth waiting for. By the way, the fact that they limit the number of memberships is a good thing. It keeps the place from being over crowded.

    Check out BLGC.

As much as I don't really love driving that far to shoot, when I'm there, I feel "at home".
