I had this same problem happen to me a few years back with my oil level sensor. I wrapped it in that hard accordion hose sleeve stuff and it never happened again. I think the rabbits (or what ever it was) don't like the noise that stuff makes. Use some good shrink wrap when you mend it and that according wrap and you should be good to go.
