that's because its barley based instead of wheat or rye.

I used to prefer Scotch, but in recent years I've found myself drifting into the Bourbon camp. Not gonna turn down either though. Honestly think the thing that kept me away from Bourbon for so many years was Jack Daniels ... there's an odd little flavor just below the surface with Jack that I really don't like.
Lifetime Laphroaig leaseholder here. It's my favorite, and anything else from Islay is next. Aside from Scotch, I prefer Irish and Cognac over bourbon.

Scotch. Isle of Jura all flavors. Enjoy trying different types from real peaty and smokey to the other end of the spectrum. Also like brandy and found a nice one from California.

Jim Beam but have not had any in around 30 some years. When I was in the U.S. Army, I ran the NCO package liquor store (years 1956 - 1958) and Jim Beam was the biggest seller. The slowest seller was Schnley ("Black Death")

Regular, single barrel and honey are all delicious too!
We're stuck on American Honey right now.

Macallan 12 is my favorite. I enjoy Ardbeg, Glenfiddich, and Laphroaig too.

Tried some of this last night, after dinner. Very nice.

What is the infatuation with Pappy Van Winkle? 7000 cases a year. 5-14 year waiting lists. The "old" unsold bourbon stock is drying/dried up, so look for the availability to be even less in the near future. Not saying it isn't good but it is unobtainium. I'll stick with something a little more accessible.
