    Default Is this rust??

Rifle is my father in law's 300 Win mag, he hunts with it yearly and noticed this. What is the safety way to remove or clean it? He's tried a normal brush going from the chamber to bore.

I have a hunting rifle that hasn't had a round put down the barrel in about eight years. I try to take it out if the safe about once a year and give it a quick cleaning and wipe down. You should see how green the patches come out of the barrel from the copper.

Don't overscrub when trying to get out every speck of fouling. You can create as many problems as you solve by "over cleaning". Every bore will have copper fouling in it...you'll never get it all out.

    This x 10.
Most rifles shoot better with a touch of fouling anyway.

Yes, I am pretty sure we have all heard of a "fouling shot".

I'm a big fan of the KG product line. It is non-ammonia based, and works very well. It does mean that you need to pick up2 or 3 of the other KG products, but it is well worth the expense. It is what was recommended by Noveske for their spr barrels and I use it on everything now.
